PocketLynx

One touch synchronization for your Sharp TM-20

  1. Can I create my e-mail messages on the PC and download them to the TM-20 to send later?
  1. Yes. You can compose new messages and store them in PocketLynx. When you synchronize those entries will then be on the TM-20, ready to be sent the next time you connect to the PocketMail Network.
  1. Can I backup historical e-mails?
  1. Yes, however, in this case you do not want to use the literal Backup function in PocketLynx. If you do this you must restore the backup file to the TM-20 to view the data. Restoring the backup file will erase the data currently on the TM-20 and replace it with the data in the backup file.

If you want to be able to regularly view these older e-mails you’ll need to create a new Organizer File to save them in. When you’ve created your new Organizer File, you can cut or copy the entries from your current Organizer File, then Paste them into the new one.

You can also Receive or Synchronize your Inbox and/or Outbox entries from your TM-20 to a new Organizer File. Please note, though, that if you choose to Receive or Synchronize with this new file, the next time you want to Synchronize with your original file, it will go through a Full Synchronization instead of the less time consuming Incremental Synchronization. Once those messages are safely saved in your new Organizer File they can be deleted from your original file. The next time you sync with your TM-20 the old e-mails you deleted from PocketLynx will also be deleted from the TM-20. The file you created to store your historical e-mail messages can be opened any time you want to look up an older entry.

  1. What’s the difference between the Synchronize, Send, Receive, Backup, and Restore transfer options?
  1. Synchronize. Synchronizing will update both the PocketLynx database and your TM-20 database so they match.

**Full Synchronization. All entries on the TM-20 are transferred to PocketLynx, merged with the PocketLynx entries, then transferred back to the TM-20.

**Incremental Synchronization. Only modified or new entries are exchanged between the TM-20 and PocketLynx. Incremental Synchronization is much faster than the Full Synchronization.

Some situations will require a Full Synchronization.

    1. Your first Synchronization with PocketLynx will automatically be a Full Syncrhonization.
    2. If you have restored a backup file to the TM-20 your next Synchronization must be a Full Synchronization.
    3. If you Synchronize with more than one Organizer File within PocketLynx, each time you change files the next Synchronization will be a Full Synchronization.
    4. If you Synchronize more than one TM-20 with a single Organizer File within PocketLynx, each time you change the TM-20 the next Synchronization will be a Full Synchronization.

Send. If you are currently viewing your Address Book application in PocketLynx, Send will transfer all the entries from your Address Book to your TM-20. The Address Book entries currently in your TM-20 will be replaced by the ones coming from PocketLynx.

Receive. If you are currently viewing your Address Book application in PocketLynx, Receive will transfer all of the entries on the TM-20 to PocketLynx. The Address Book entries currently in PocketLynx will be replaced by the ones coming from the TM-20.

*When you use the Synchronize or Receive options you will be able to view and edit the data once it is in PocketLynx.

Backup. This will create an archive file of all of the data currently stored on your TM-20. This backup file can not be viewed or edited within PocketLynx. It is simply an alternate means of safeguarding your data in case of loss.

Restore. This will restore a backup file to the TM-20. Any data on the TM-20 will be replaced by what is contained in the backup file when it is restored.

  1. I backed up all of my data to PocketLynx. Why can’t I view it?
  1. A backup file can not be viewed or edited because it is an archive file. The only way to view a backup file is to restore it back to the TM-20. In order to view your data within PocketLynx, you must use either the Synchronize or Receive transfer methods.

  1. Is PocketLynx compatible with Outlook?
  1. Yes. You can import or export Address Book entries with the Outlook Contacts folders or Schedule entries with the Outlook Calendar folders of Outlook 97 and Outlook 98.
  1. I’m using another program on my PC to organize my address book and schedule. How can I get this data into my TM-20?
  1. PocketLynx will allow you to import and export files with other programs. The following is a complete list of file formats supported by PocketLynx: Outlook 97/98, *Act! 2.04/3.x/4.x, CSV (Comma Separated Values), SDF (Standard Delimiter Format), and TXT (Text Delimited).

If you are not using one of the listed versions of Outlook or Act, you’ll need to check with your program to see if it will export files in one of the other formats listed. Files that are imported into PocketLynx can be viewed and edited in the respective application. From there they can be transferred to the TM-20.

If it turns out that importing and exporting is not an option with the program you have, the last resort is Copy and Paste. You can Copy text from your program and Paste it into PocketLynx. It would be tedious and time consuming, but it is another option aside from entering all data from scratch.

*The Schedule application can be imported from Act, but it can not be exported back to Act.

  1. We have more than one TM-20 in our family. How can we keep all of our data saved on the PC without getting it mixed up?
  1. PocketLynx will allow you to create multiple Organizer Files. When you transfer data it will only transfer into the Organizer File that is currently open in PocketLynx. You can create a new file or open an existing file from the File menu. Creating a new file or opening an existing file will automatically save and close the previous file.
  1. I am currently using RuppLynx with another type of Sharp organizer. Can I use it with the TM-20, too?
  1. No. RuppLynx does not support the TM-20. There are no plans to add support for the TM-20 to RuppLynx at this time.
  1. Can I transfer the data in RuppLynx to PocketLynx?
  1. Yes. RuppLynx will allow you to export your data files in CSV, SDF, or TXT formats. PocketLynx will import any of these file types.
  1. Can I print mailing labels from my PocketLynx Address Book?
  1. No. PocketLynx does not support printing mailing labels. You can export your Address Book to a program that will print mailing labels.
